El presente artículo se propone discutir el objeto de estudio de la economía (política) a fin de
intentar dar respuesta a algunas de las disyuntivas que se plantean para su enseñanza a nivel
universitario. Entre ellas, si debe brindarse una
formación amplia, que incluya en igual medida a
todas las vertientes que se han ido desarrollando
a lo largo de la historia del pensamiento económico, o si debe darse preeminencia a una mirada
particular y formar a los estudiantes en ella.
Se recorre de manera sucinta la historia del pensamiento económico, se discuten los aportes de
diversos autores y se avanza en una propuesta a
partir de la cual sentar las bases epistemológicas
para el diseño de un plan de estudios universitarios en la materia. Se describe el modo en que
el objeto de estudio ha ido mutando a lo largo
del tiempo, producto de las discusiones surgidas
en el interior de la disciplina y de la influencia
inevitable del contexto. Finalmente, se discuten
las implicancias que se derivan de las diferentes
maneras de hacer economía, enfocándose sobre
todo en los argumentos de los que se han valido
las diferentes corrientes económicas a favor o en
contra del carácter político de la economía.
The present article aims to discuss the object of study of (political) economy in order to try to give response to some of the dilemmas that appear for its teaching at university level. Between them, if there must be offered a wide formation, which includes in equal measure all the strands that have been developed along the history of economic thought, or if preeminence must be given to a particular school of thought and form the students in it. The article traces in a succinct way the history of the economic thought, discussing the contributions of different authors and presenting a proposal in which to lay the epistemologic foundations for the design of a plan of university studies in the matter. The way in which the object of study has been mutating throughout the time is described, changes which result both of the discussions that take place inside the discipline and of the unavoidable influence of the context. Finally, the implications that stem from the different ways of doing economy are discussed, focusing especially in the arguments used by different currents of economic thougth in favour or against the political character of the economy.
