digital.
This Thesis Project is an exploratory analysis of the way in which classical works of art circulate with interventions by other artists on digital platforms, specifically on Instagram, based on the case of “Las Meninas” by Diego Velázquez. We will observe the appropriations that three digital artists made of this masterpiece, in which we find features of artification (Shapiro, 2004) with elements from the world of the Internet. The young concept of artification, which brings together the transformation processes that are taking place within the artistic field, allowed us to think about and describe the current conditions of production and circulation of pieces that have a sediment of a work belonging to the “art world” (Danto, 2013) but that circulate on social networks thanks to a novelty: some material, language or object that does not belong to the artistic sphere and that modifies the meaning of the original work. The exploration of this topic allowed us to propose a model of an application for the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rosario. The aim of this app is to give visitors the opportunity to digitally intervene in the works of the museum's permanent collection, exploring the concept of "artification" through the fusion of works of art with contemporary elements of urban culture and the digital environment.
