Resumen
Los micromamíferos, por su riqueza y diversidad de especies, constituyen eslabones
fundamentales en las comunidades de vertebrados terrestres y poseen un gran valor
ecológico por su rol como presas de depredadores y dispersores de semillas. Tyto
furcata es una de las rapaces más estudiadas en América del Sur, con numerosos
trabajos en Argentina, especialmente en áreas abiertas de la región pampeana y
agroecosistemas. En este trabajo de tesina se caracterizaron los ítems presa
consumidos por T. furcata a partir del análisis de 80 egagrópilas colectadas en una
localidad de Pampa de las Lagunas en febrero del año 2018, en la Estancia “Los
Ángeles”, Departamento General López, provincia de Santa Fe (34° 02’ 44.1’’ S, 61°
40’ 58.0’’ O). Se identificaron un total de 312 vertebrados, los roedores (mamíferos)
conformaron el principal ítem alimenticio con un 53,52% (n=167), seguidos por
anfibios 45,51% (n=142) y finalmente aves, representando apenas un 0,96% (n=3).
Dentro de los roedores el 97% (n=162) estuvo representado por especímenes nativos
de la familia Cricetidae mientras que apenas un 3% (n=5) corresponden a roedores
exóticos de la familia Muridae. Se registraron cinco especies: Oligoryzomys
flavescens, Calomys spp., Akodon azarae, Holochilus vulpinus y Mus musculus,
siendo las dos primeras los taxones más abundantes y frecuentes. Conocer la dieta
de T. furcata en la Ea. “Los Ángeles” no sólo constituye una nueva localidad de registro
de roedores en el sur de la provincia de Santa Fe, sino que refuerza la utilidad del
análisis de egagrópilas como herramienta complementaria para el conocimiento y
descripción de estas comunidades.
Micromammals, due to their species richness and diversity, are crucial components of terrestrial vertebrate communities and have significant ecological value given their roles as predator prey and seed dispersers. Tyto furcata is one of the most intensively studied raptors in South America, with numerous investigations conducted in Argentina, particularly in open areas of the Pampas region and diverse agroecosystems. In this undergraduate thesis, we characterized the prey items consumed by T. furcata through the analysis of 80 regurgitated pellets collected in February 2018 at a site in the Pampa de las Lagunas, within Estancia “Los Ángeles,” Departamento General López, Santa Fe province (34° 02′ 44.1″ S, 61° 40′ 58.0″ W). A total of 312 vertebrate prey items were identified. Rodents comprised the main dietary component, accounting for 53.52 % (n = 167), followed by amphibians at 45.51 % (n = 142), and finally birds, which represented a mere 0.96 % (n = 3). Among the rodents, 97 % (n = 162) were native species of the family Cricetidae, while only 3 % (n = 5) belonged to exotic Muridae species. Five species were recorded: Oligoryzomys flavescens, Calomys spp., Akodon azarae, Holochilus vulpinus, and Mus musculus, with the first two taxa being the most abundant and frequent. Understanding the diet of T. furcata at Estancia “Los Ángeles” not only provides a new locality record of rodents for southern Santa Fe province but also reinforces the value of pellet analysis as a complementary tool for understanding and characterizing micromammal communities.
