The digital change is a heterogeneous process that affects modes of communication, management and organization. In family farming, the main activity of the agricultural sector in Argentina and in many parts of the world, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sits across the intersection of crucial concerns such as generational shift, technological transformation, territorial configuration, and also productive practices. Agriculture is a possible and, at the same time, relevant field to think about contemporary youth, their dilemmas, deployments and strategies in a world that is as interconnected as it is conflictive. This is where this thesis seeks to contribute with knowledge, based on an interpretative and situated study of the problem in San Luis province, located in the center-west of Argentina. The research proposed here is based on the assumption that, fueled by the integration of ICT in different spheres of life, young people are configuring new experiences that challenge the scope of agricultural activity and encourage the revision of some historical categories. In this context, the work aims to explore the communication modalities of youth in family farming and investigate the transformations and reconfigurations that this population draws from digital technologies. The path of the research leads to reconstructing the socio-technical trajectories of ICT in agriculture and their socio-cultural configurations. Situating young people as relevant actors in the processes related to supermodern mobility breeds a divergent agrarian subject, different from the prevailing assumptions and conceptualizations regarding agrarian youth, with distinct new ways of seeing, being, doing and telling The integration of the findings from the field work with theoretical underpinnings, and empirical evidence results in a cartography of the recent socio-cultural transformations that, driven by ICT, defies the contours of an activity that has occupied humanity for more than ten thousand years.
