En el ensayo “Literatura + enfermedad = enfermedad”, Roberto Bolaño afirma que la literatura, el sexo y el viaje solo nos conducen a “oasis de horror”, porque no existen alternativas para nuestros males. Sin embargo, agrega, debemos continuar leyendo literatura, teniendo relaciones sexuales y viajando. En el presente artículo examino e intento ofrecer una explicación de esa declaración de Bolaño. De igual modo, analizo cómo es presentado y representado el horror en algunos pasajes de su obra. Para todo lo anterior, retomo planteamientos de Adorno, Benjamin, Zizek y Celan, entre otros autores.
In his essay“Literature + Illness = Illness,” Roberto Bolañoclaims that literature, sex and travel can only lead to “oasis of horror”, because there are no alternatives to our evils. However, he adds, we must continue reading literature, having sex and travelling. This article examines and try to explain Bolaño’sstatement. It also analyses how the horror is presented and represented in some passages of his works. Arguments by Adorno, Benjamin, Zizek, Celan and others will be considered in the discussion.
