exclusivamente masculina, permitió progresivamente a
This article explores the trajectory followed by some educated women of the province of Tucumán as members of cultural and educational associations created in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. This participation, which marked on the one hand the decline of an almost exclusively masculine sociability, on the other hand progressively allowed some women to enjoy full rights within the associations. To this extend, the article focusses on the women electoral behavior during the 1905-1912 period in the “Círculo del Magisterio”, an association that brought together male and female teachers from all over the province. Through the study of these electoral practices, which constituted the main difference with the female participation in nineteenthcentury associations, our purpose is to determine the degree of real representation that these women had within this sphere of sociability.
