Los pescadores artesanales de la Ciénega de Michoacán han sostenido una tradición lacustre ancestral transmitida por generaciones. Al parecer, la robustez de sus instituciones locales de pesca les ha propiciado márgenes de contención frente a los retos ambientales, sociales, económicos y normativos que experimentan en su territorio. En este estudio, analizamos la relación entre instituciones oficiales e instituciones locales que intervienen en el desempeño de la pesca artesanal en el Lago de Chapala. Desde un enfoque neoinstitucional, el objetivo del trabajo es problematizar la relación que existe entre las normas formales oficiales que regulan la actividad pesquera y las regulaciones tácitas locales que despliegan los pescadores para desempeñar su trabajo. Quién es pescador y quién no; cuánto se permite capturar y con qué avíos; dónde se permiten las capturas y cómo; cómo hacer las labores de la pesca, son algunas de las interrogantes estudiadas.

From a neo-institutional approach, the objective of the work is to problematize the relationship that exists between the official formal norms that regulate the fishing activity and the local tacit regulations that fishermen deploy to carry out their work. Who is a fisherman and who is not; how much is allowed to catch and with what gear; where catches are allowed and how; how to do the work of fishing, are some of the questions studied.
