'num me puerum de virgine doctis artibus efficiet?': género y metapoética en el episodio de Ifis e Iante, Ov.Met.9.666-797

Abstract

Nuestro propósito es demostrar que el episodio de Ifis e Iante explora distintos géneros literarios (la tragedia, la comedia, la novela griega, la elegía) en busca de elementos que permitan una construcción discursiva adecuada del amor de Ifis por Iante. Sin embargo, la representación del deseo de Ifis por Iante resulta ser imposible. Por lo tanto, el relato encuentra una salida en la milagrosa transformación de Ifis en varón. Este hecho extraordinario de manera paradójica restablece el orden de lo que se considera representable porque restaura la relación causal entre sexo, género y deseo en el sujeto metamórfico. El episodio de Ifis e Iante reflexiona extensamente sobre los límites de los géneros literarios frente a un asunto que parece ser ajeno a esta tradición: la singular condición de Ifis y la novedad de este deseo. Esta reflexión pone en primer plano las doctae artes del poeta y su capacidad transformadora: si a nivel narrativo es Isis la responsable de la metamorfosis, a nivel metapoético es el poeta el que urde y transforma el relato.Abstract: Our purpose is to demonstrate that the episode of Iphis and Ianthe explores different literary genres (tragedy, comedy, Greek novel, elegy) in search of elements that allow an adequate discursive construction of Iphis' love for Iante. However, the representation of Iphis' desire for Ianthe turns out to be impossible. Therefore, the story finds a way out in the miraculous transformation of Iphis into a male. This extraordinary fact paradoxically restores the order of what is considered representable, because it reinstates the causal relationship between sex, gender and desire in the metamorphic subject. The episode of Iphis and Iante explores extensively the limits of literary genres in the face of a theme that seems to be foreign to this tradition: the singular condition of Iphis and the novelty of this desire. This survey brings to the fore the doctae artes of the poet and his transformative capacity. If at the narrative level it is Isis who is responsible for the metamorphosis, at the metapoetic level it is the poet who weaves and transforms the story.
