Despite the dissemination the cognitive model of the writing process has had in our country since 1980 (Cassany, Hayes & Flower), traditional representations still remain of writers as talented, unique beings in whom inspiration seems to replace the work of writing. Meanwhile, the creative process appears frequently in fiction. In the Argentinian literary production of the last decades, representations can be observed which show models that fall far from that of the stereotypical inspired writer, the spontaneous solitary writing, the sublime purely expressive purpose, the lack of constraints for writing and publishing. This paper will focus on some of the authors of the “New Argentinian Narrative”: Sergio Bizzio, Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, Fabián Casas, Pablo Ramos, all of them considered in our ongoing research (UBACyT). Their texts take as a theme the different aspects of the creative process: the awareness of the limits and restrictions of writing conditions, the dilemmas faced as to which are the productive elements to be turned into literary material. Observing these aspects enables the analysis of representations of the writing process and the image of the writer in the present literature, a way of shedding light on how writing is thought of in the contemporary world.
