En el contexto de la conmemoración del primer centenario de la revolución de Mayo de 1810 en Argentina,
se comenzaron a realizar en la ciudad de Rosario los primeros salones de arte. La primera de dichas
exhibiciones se efectúo en 1917, y constituía prácticamente el único espacio en el cual los artistas tenían la
posibilidad de presentar y vender su producción. Los primeros salones de carácter oficial fueron
denominados “Salón de Otoño”, en los cuales se otorgaban premios, previa selección de un jurado. El
fomento de dichos salones fue parte de un proceso de institucionalización del incipiente campo artístico
rosarino. Como consecuencia surgieron la Comisión Municipal de Bellas Artes y el Museo de Bellas Artes, el
cual se inauguró en 1920. El presente trabajo se centra en el análisis de algunas de estas exposiciones
oficiales de arte, su recepción y los criterios de legitimación artística que primaron en la época.

The very first of these exhibitions was held in 1917, and was practically the only space where artists were able to exhibit and sell their art production. First official salons were named “Autumn Salon”, in which prior judge selection, awards were granted. Its fostering was part of an institutionalization process of the new born rosarinian artistic field. As a consequence, Municipal Commission of Fine Arts and Museum of Fine Arts, founded in 1920, emerged.
