resistencia y/o reconocimiento socio-cultural.
This research studies the communication aspects of the Buenos Aires candombe dance - emblematic practice of Afro-Porteño culture that persisted through various forms of repression and silencing throughout history- based on an ethnographic approach to the Misibamba Civil Association, located in the western area of Buenos Aires and whose members recognize themselves as Afro-Argentines 'of the colonial trunk'. We will investigate the current ways in which corporalities are configured in dance, exploring in their movements and gestures, the signifiers that operate in the restructuring of their identity processes. To do this, we will review the disputes present in the different social contexts where Buenos Aires candombe developed throughout the 19th and 20th centuries (community organizations, carnivals, dances in public and private spaces) seeking to identify in body gestures marks of other genres with which it interacted in different scenarios. These elements and their current traces will shed light on the potential of certain neglected features of candombe as a way of resistance and/or socio-cultural recognition.
