This paper analyzes the intergenerational transformations occuring within gender relations and representations in the upwardly mobile trajectories of families whose female members have broadened their working and educational opportunities. The study seeks to contribute to an account of the process of the configuration of new family models and mandates, divisions of domestic chores and responsibilities, and of notions about care work and lesiure time. To that end, in this paper I identify the articulations between the experiences of upward social mobility and the redefinitions and appropriations that occur within the home, starting from the incorporation of new resources. Additionally, the web of negotiations is untangled, such as the strategies deployed by the women with the aim of favouring the development of more egalitarian and democratic gender relations in contrast with the traditional models internalized within the family of origin.
