Mediante el estudio de algunas de las características de los sistemas de transporte
latinoamericanos, el artículo presenta unas notas preparatorias para el desarrollo de un
modelo que permita analizar las identidades colectivas asociadas a unidades de sentido
de naturaleza ‘geo-cultural’, como naciones, regiones y/o constructos supranacionales. La
hipótesis es que los sistemas de transporte latinoamericanos, al mismo tiempo que reflejan
ciertas características discursivamente asociadas a la identidad considerada distintiva de
América Latina, funcionan como un marcador más para la construcción de ese conjunto de
discursos e imaginarios que es la idea de una identidad latinoamericana.
Through the study some of the features of Latin America’s transport systems, the article presents some preparatory notes for the development of a model to analyze collective identities linked to units of meaning of ‘geo-cultural’ nature, such as nations, regions and/or supra-national constructs. The hypothesis is that, while Latin America’s transport systems reflect a number of traits discursively linked to the identity regarded as distinctive of Latin America, they also work as markers for the construction of that set of discourses and imaginaries that are condensed in the idea of an identity that is Latin American.
