Los intelectuales constituyen un componente fundamental del ciclo más reciente de movilización mapuche en Chile, a su vez, es un segmento específico que se relaciona problemáticamente con las organizaciones que animan este movimiento. Su producción intelectual cumple un rol fundamental en la articulación de una identidad étnica que pone énfasis en la diferencia cultural, en el daño histórico y en los derechos que se desprenden de ella.
Los textos producidos por los intelectuales mapuches contienen la argumentación de esta diferencia, elaborada a partir de variados recursos discursivos que les permiten construir un “nosotros mapuche” radicalmente opuesto al chileno-winka. Lo interesante de este esfuerzo es que esta diferencia es invocada por el segmento de la población mapuche que participa menos de aquella “base objetiva” que sería la cultura tradicional, aquella que ellos mismos indican como lo propiamente mapuche.
Este artículo se aproxima a la función interpretativa que cumplen estos intelectuales, en cuyo ejercicio se construyen representaciones de lo mapuche y de la sociedad mayor en la cual esta cultura se encuentra insertada.
Intellectuals constitute a fundamental component of the most recent cycle of mapuche mobilisation in Chile, at the same time, this specific segment have problematic relations with the organisations that animate the movement. Their intellectual production fulfils a fundamental role in the articulation of an ethnic identity that emphasises cultural difference, historical damage, and associated rights. Mapuche texts argument this difference from various discursive resources that permit the construction of a “we, the mapuche” radically opposed to chilean-winka. The interesting aspect of this effort is that the diffrence is invooked by the segment of mapuche population that does not participate in the “objective base” of traditional culture, which they themselves indicate as characteristc of mapuche. This article approaches the interpretative function fulfilled by these intellectuals in their representation of the mapuche and society as a whole in which this culture is inserted.
