El propósito de este trabajo es analizar los aportes de la Historia Oral a la explicación histórica. Para ello hemos realizado un breve recorrido alrededor de las distintas vertientes que conforman la Historia Oral. En este sentido, nos resultó imprescindible establecer un encuadre más general en el que ligamos dichas cuestiones a la denominada Historia Social. Tomando como punto de partida la ampliación de las áreas de conocimiento y del tipo de fuentes presentes en las distintas ramas de la Historia Oral, así como en las obras de Raphael Samuel y Edward Paul Thompson, consideramos fundamental recurrir a este tipo de abordaje a la hora de hacer Historia Reciente. En suma, creemos que nos permite acercarnos al estudio de la cultura popular, la gente común y corriente, sus prácticas cotidianas y sus particulares subjetividades.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the contributions of Oral History to the historical explanation. In order to do that, we have made a brief research around the different currents that conform Oral History. In this sense, we thought it was imperative to establish a more general context in which we linked those problems to the so-called Social History. Considering the expansion of knowledge areas and the types of sources -contained in the different branches of Oral History and in Raphael Samuel’s and Edward Paul Thompson’s works- we think it fundamental to appeal to this special approach whenever we deal with Recent History. To summarize, we believe this particular view of history open doors to the study of popular culture, common people, their daily habits and their own subjectivity.
