En este artículo se analiza el proceso de negociación de la convocatoria del primer Congreso Constituyente Mexicano que se llevó a cabo en la ciudad de México durante los últimos meses del año 1821. Se propone que la convocatoria con la que se realizaron las primeras elecciones del México independiente fue producto de la intensa actividad política entre los grupos que intentaron establecer un gobierno legítimo tras la consumación de la independencia. Se demuestra que la convocatoria no fue, como se ha afirmado en la historiografía, producto de la imposición de Agustín de Iturbide.
This article analizes the process of negotiation to call the First Mexican Constituent Congress which took place in Mexico City the last months of 1821. It is proposed that the call with which the first elections of the indepedent Mexico were done, was the product of the intense political activity between the groups that tried to establish a legitimate government after independence was consummated. It is demonstrated that the call was not imposed by Agustin de Iturbide, as it was asserted by historiography.
