From the reconstruction of the criminal behaviour of two fellows from the Santa Fe South during the second half of the Nineteenth Century, we suggest the analysis of the course of actions carried through by the state in order to prevent, rule and punish the social misbehaviour considered illegal. For that we mainly attend, on the one hand, to the mechanisms of social control and discipline procedures that had been implemented by the State, and the conduct carried out by those who did not adapt to the rules set by the State, on the other. The treatment of the these raised questions enabled us to put to test the assertion which maintains: the weakness and restraints of State’s power favoured the development of banditry. The investigation was on the basis of the analysis of Criminal Files and documents from the General Archives of Santa Fe Province.
