El propósito del artículo es reconstruir las acciones y las ideas de una de
las tendencias del antifascismo católico de los años treinta y cuarenta:
la de los llamados “populares”, un grupo de militantes provenientes del
Partido Popular de Buenos Aires y seguidores del pensamiento político
de Luigi Sturzo durante su largo exilio en Londres y Nueva York. Si bien
los “sturzianos” argentinos no lograron su principal cometido, lanzar una
agrupación democristiana de envergadura, contribuyeron tras ese objetivo a
la difusión de la obra de Sturzo en el país y a la emergencia de una vertiente
“populista” en el catolicismo democrático del período de entreguerras.
The purpose of this article is to explore the actions and ideas of one of the trends of the Catholic anti-fascism of the thirties and forties: the so-called “the popular”, a small group of militants from the Popular Party of Buenos Aires. They were followers of political thought of Luigi Sturzo into exile in London and New York. Even when the “sturzianos” did not achieve their main aim, the creation of an important Christian Democratic Party, they helped to spread Sturzos work in the country and formed a “populist” democratic tendency within Catholicism in the interwar period.
