Hebillas militares del Fuerte General Paz (Carlos Casares, Buenos Aires): un abordaje histórico y arqueológico de su variedad formal e iconográfica

| dc.description | Se presenta la caracterización del conjunto de hebillas militares con inscripciones y motivos iconográficos del Fuerte General Paz (Partido de Carlos Casares, Provincia de Buenos Aires), comandancia de la Frontera Oeste de Buenos Aires entre 1869 y 1876. Consideramos tanto hebillas recuperadas en nuestras investigaciones arqueológicas como ejemplares provenientes del sitio en el Museo Histórico Municipal de Carlos Casares y en una colección particular, y presentamos una caracterización morfo-tecno-iconográfica de las mismas. Las hebillas incluyen tres tipos: hebillas de placa rectangulares, hebillas de encastre, y una inusual hebilla de placa ovalada estadounidense. En conjunto plantean interrogantes históricos y arqueológicos, en tanto no responden a la reglamentación vigente en ese período y no encuentran paralelos en sitios arqueológicos conocidos. Abordamos estos interrogantes en el trabajo, discutiendo cuestiones de abastecimiento y equipamiento del ejército en relación a los uniformes y proponiendo algunas interpretaciones iniciales para dar cuenta de las problemáticas identificadas. | es |
| dc.description | We present here a characterization of the assemblage of belt buckles with inscriptions and icons from Fort General Paz (Carlos Casares County, Buenos Aires Province), which functioned as the head of the section of Buenos Aires Province frontier then known as the Western Frontier, between 1869 and 1876. We consider buckles recovered in our archaeological investigations (excavations and systematic surface collection) as well as buckles from the site that now belong to the Carlos Casares Historical Municipal Museum and to a private collection. We present a morphological-technical-iconographic characterization of the assemblage. The buckles considered here include three types: rectangular plate buckles (including in turn two variants, both with the national coat of arms but one reading “REPUBLICA ARGENTINA” and the other “CONFEDERACION ARGENTINA”); spoon buckles (in turn including two variants, one showing a number “7” corresponding to a military unit on the front, and another variant with a motive of a sun over mountains), and a highly unusual American oval plate buckle (a Model 1839 US Army buckle). As a whole, they pose both historical and archaeological questions, as they do not adjust to official regulations and have no known parallels in other investigated archaeological sites. We try to answer these questions by discussing issues of army supply and logistics, suggesting preliminary interpretations to account for the buckles´ presence at the site. | es |
