Nunca se había visto una imagen del Mercado negrero de Retiro y la posibilidad de excavarlo ha desaparecido. El hallazgo de grabados sobre el sistema de sótanos de la fábrica de cerveza Bieckert que estuviera en el lugar permite ver como eran y tratar de comprender el funcionamiento de esa construcción que la precediera, única en la ciudad, ya que funcionaba en su mayor parte bajo tierra. La presencia de la población africana en Buenos Aires ha sido un tema de impacto en la arqueología para la cual toda información sobre su cultura material, sea hecha por ellos o para ellos, resulta importante, en este caso el acceder a un sistema de construcciones abovedadas subterráneas extrañas a la arquitectura de la ciudad.
Instead the importance of the slave mercados in the city we never have the possibility to see pictures of the building of Retiro headquarters or his interior. A series of engraves made during the second half of the XIXth. century recently discovered, show the place, including the undergrounds vaults. There was the place where the Bieckert brewery works in the second half of that century and now the place was under a great 1910 palace. It is an interesting step in the recognition of the main importance and the big dimensions of the slave trade at Buenos Aires during the Colonial times.
