Este texto es una versión corregida de la conferencia pronunciada el 18 de noviembre de 2000, en el Seminario “Introducción a la obra del profesor Alejandro Lipschütz”, en Santiago de Chile, organizado por el Colegio de Antropólogos de Chile, el Centro de Estudios Nacionales de Desarrollo Alternativo /CENDA/ y el Instituo de Ciencias Alejandro Lipschütz/ICAL/. En el mismo, tras una caracterización del momento en el que se analiza la vida y la obra del eminente fisiólogo y americanista Alejandro Lipschütz (1883 – 1980), se destacan algunos de sus aportes a la americanística; la relación entre la investigación y el autor, centrada en la problemática histórica y actual de los pueblos indígenas en América y Chile en particular, y su preocupación por el destino de nuestras tierras. Se revaloriza, a través de su obra, el papel de las “profecías” y las “utopías”, en la construcción de proyectos alternativos. Se enfatiza la necesidad de recoger la herencia de su producción en la elaboración de proyectos superadores del denominado pensamiento único.
The paper is a revised version of the lecture delivered in Santiago de Chile,on 18 November 2000 at the Seminar “An introduction to the work of Professor Alejandro Lipschütz”, organised by the Chilean College of Anthropologist, the National Studies Centre for Alternative Development (CENDA) and the Alejandro Lipschütz Science Institute (ICAL). In this paper -after analysing the life and work of the eminent physiologist and Americanist Alejandro Lipschütz (1883 – 1980) – the author highlights part of Lipschütz' contribution to the world of American cultures, the relationship between the author's research – centred on historical and present problems of aboriginal inhabitants in America and specially in Chile – and Lipschütz' concern over the fate of our lands. Re-evaluation of the role of “prophecies” and “utopias” in the construct of alternative projects is considered. The necesity of including Alejandro Lipschütz' heritage production in the preparative of alternative projects intended to surpass the so-called “unique thought” is highly emphasised.
