En el artículo se analiza la identidad étnica de los fenicios occidentales desde una posición crítica hacia la tradición historiográfica moderna, que se basa más en la propaganda anticartaginesa de la historiografía romana, que en la visión que tuvo la historiografía griega clásica de los fenicios y cartagineses y de la percepción que de sí mismos tenían los fenicios. La autoconciencia fenicia puede reconstruirse en algunos textos griegos, latinos y a través de inscripciones que se analizan en el artículo.
The paper analyses the problem of the ethnical identity of wester Phoenicians from a critical position towards the modern historiographical tradition, which is based in the anti-Carthaginian propaganda of the Roman historiography rather than the view sustained by the Greek historiography and the perception that the Phoenicians had of themselves. The Phoenician self-conciousness can be studied in Greek and Latin texts and through inscriptions that are analyzed in the paper.
