A partir del análisis de la figura de Hernando Arias de Saavedra en algunas obras —académicas y de divulgación— de la historiografía rioplatense de los últimos cien años, el trabajo muestra los hilos que anudan las opciones por una historiografía nacionalista con un pasado colonial, interrogándose finalmente por la transparencia u opacidad del vínculo existente entre la revisión de la historia, el posicionamiento político de los historiadores y su manera de interpretar un pasado, en este caso, prenacional.
Based on the analysis of the figure of Hernando Arias de Saavedra in several texts – academic and informative – on the historiography of Río de la Plata of the last hundred years, this paper illuminates the threads tying the nationalist historiography to a colonial past. It ultimately questions the transparency or opacity of the links between the revision of history, the political positioning of historians, and their way of interpreting a past, in this case, pre-national.
