En este texto se pretende describir y analizar las noticias sobre las batallas más relevantes
entre los años 1866-1868 en la prensa oficial del Paraguay, cuyo principal exponente fue el
periódico El Semanario de Avisos y Conocimientos Útiles (1853-1868). Desde que comenzó
el conflicto El Semanario fue el medio utilizado por el gobierno para difundir las principales
noticias y hacer llegar a la población en general su posición y su visión sobre el desarrollo
del conflicto. Su publicación abarca los primeros cuatro años del conflicto y constituye una
fuente relevante para comprender el uso propagandístico de la prensa en una guerra del
siglo XIX. Para el análisis se han seleccionado algunas de las principales batallas, tanto que
resultaron en victoria como en derrotas para el ejército paraguayo, de ese modo se pudo
comprobar que el mensaje que se hacía llegar a la población era verosímil mas no certero y
veraz.
This text tries to describe and analyze the news about the more important battles, between 1886 and 1868, presented by the official press of Paraguay, whose main expression was the newspaper “El Semanario de Avisos y Conocimientos Útiles (1853-1868). Since the beginning of the war El Semanario was the mean used by the government to spread the news and its position and viewpoint on the development of the conflict to the population. The newspaper covers the first four years of the conflict and is a relevant source for understanding the press for propaganda purposes in a 19th century war. Some or A few main battles, both resulting in victory and defeats for the Paraguayan army, have been selected for this analysis. By doing so, it was possible to verify that the news sent to the population was a plausible message but not accurate and true.
