El objetivo de este trabajo es comprender el desarrollo del otrora pueblo de San
José de Flores en las afueras de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, actualmente, un barrio
de ésta última. Principalmente se trata de indagar en las razones de su ubicación
geográfica, de qué manera esto se relaciona con los recursos naturales que se encontraban en la zona, con las rutas comerciales del antiguo Virreinato del Río de la
Plata y con las políticas económicas del proto-estado argentino. Aquí se analizan
algunos registros arqueológicos y fuentes documentales, bajo el marco de la teoría
del Sistema Mundial que es adecuada para abordar el estudio de la complejidad.
Finalmente se relacionan las fuentes documentales con el registro arqueológico y a
partir de esto se desarrolla una explicación a la evolución de San José de Flores en
el tiempo.
The aim of this paper is to understand the development of the former town of San José de Flores, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, and its incorporation to the main city as a neighbourhood of it. The specific interest is specially set on the reasons of its geographical location, focusing on how this was connected to the region’s natural resources, to the commercial routes of the ancient Virreinato del Rio de La Plata and also to the economic policies of the Argentinian nascent state. Archaeological and documentary data were analyzed within the framework of the World System Theory, considered to be an appropriate approach for the study of complexity. By combining both records, this work gives an explanation on the evolution of San José de Flores over time.
