Throughout its various stages, every genocidal regime constructs an imaginary. It's not only materialized in propaganda or in concrete policies but also in the signaling and, above all, in the bodies of the enemy to annihilate. Accordingly, in all genocide, one of the earliest stages is characterized by the construction of a negative other, a propitiatory victim, who will function at the same time as an instrument to cement the unity of the group in power. Between 1975 and 1979, in Democratic Kampuchea a genocide took place and that cost the lives of almost 1,700,000 people. The great step forward promoted by Khmer Rouge soon turned the whole country into a large cemetery. In that context, the S-21 torture center stands out above all, where at least 14,000 people were killed. In our article, we propose to analyze the use of photography in this center in order to observe the role that device had in the genocidal imaginary construction and the marking of the enemy.
