El presente artículo está basado en un ejercicio para la materia “Métodos
Cualitativos” dictado por Hugo Burgos en la Maestría de Antropología Visual de
FLACSO, Ecuador. Aunque fue realizada hace unos años, conserva el espíritu
con el que fue escrito: pensar sobre el empleo de las fotografías como métodos
de investigación antropológica sobre la cultura material. A partir de una autoetnografía,
realizo un recorrido fotográfico por mi casa en Ecuador y desde allí
reflexiono sobre los espacios como lugares en donde se concentran sentidos y
representaciones personales y sociales de los trayectos transnacionales.
Siguiendo una de las técnicas presentadas por Collier (2009) para la
Antropología Visual, me atrevo a ser mi propio sujeto de investigación para realizar
una reflexión metodológica de la construcción del relato desde lo visual, como
registro de la cultura material. En el proceso uno se define a sí mismo, plasmando
la experiencia en recuerdos e imágenes que nos configuran y dan sentido en un
tiempo y en un lugar determinado, y que a partir de eso pasan a ser fundamentos de
nuestra memoria. El ejercicio, aunque basado en la experiencia personal, condensa
un método y una reflexión que puede ser utilizado en cualquier investigación que
utilice fotografías como herramienta de análisis etnográfico.
The present paper is based on an exercise for the subject “Qualitative Methods”,dictated by Hugo Burgos in the Master of Visual Anthropology of FLACSO, Ecuador. Although it was made a few years ago, it preserves the spirit with which it was written: think about the use of photographs as methods of anthropological research on material culture. From a self-ethnography, I take a photographic tour of my house in Ecuador and from there I think about the spaces as places where senses and personal and social representations of the transnational paths are concentrated. Following one of the techniques presented by Collier (2009) for Visual Anthropology, I dare to be my own research subject to perform a methodological reflection on the construction of the story from the visual, as a record of material culture. In the process one defines itself, shaping the experience in memories and images that configure us and give meaning in a certain time and in a certain place, and that from there they become the foundations of our memory. Exercise, although based on personal experience, condenses a method and reflection that can be used in any research that uses photographs as an ethnographic analysis tool.
