Throughout the 19th century, the spaces for public debate in San Juan were restricted: the low tolerance for dissent and the controls that the ruling elite exercised over opinion led to criticism and disagreements circulating through media outside the press. In this article, we propose to examine the way in which these controversial opinions were produced and circulated. To do this, we will rescue the case of a seditious pasquín printed clandestinely in the province in 1866. The evidence included in the legal case against its alleged authors will help us to reconstruct the conditions in which the sheet was composed and externalized by public form. Likewise, due to the characteristics of the object of study in question - fragmentary, elusive - we will work from the approach proposed by the index paradigm.
