Historical Archaeology and its contributions to regional studies are reflected upon in terms of the positive ways of its existence and the theoretical models that support it. It is claimed that Latin American Historical Archaeology, as a consolidated field of study, offers alternative viewpoints to those put forward by powerful institutions by determining that the models of these institutions show evident limitations when local, regional and even border processes are studied. The necessity of an interdisciplinary approach in the field of social sciences is emphasized. In this sense, Historical Archaeology is not just the combination of Archaeology and History, which explains its origin, but it goes beyond this by requiring the contribution of other disciplines to gain a complete understanding of its object of study. As a conclusion, the analytical dimensions of this discipline may be applied to the study of historical phenomena, especially regional ones.
