This report analyzes the Common Introductory Cycle (Ciclo Introductorio Común, CIC) of the School of Economics and Statistics at the National University of Rosario (FCEyE-UNR) as a curricular device that simultaneously articulates incoming students' affiliation with university life and the construction of informed vocational decisions. Drawing on a quantitative design that crosses the 2024 incoming cohort (n = 2,130), the career-intention survey (n = 1,618), and 2025 re-enrollment data, the study examines the CIC's dual function (institutional and intellectual affiliation, on the one hand, and vocational orientation, on the other) and interprets the retention rate (63.9%) together with the behavior of students who reported no defined career choice at the time of enrollment. Results show low dispersion between the intention declared at entry and the choice effectively made, as well as a process of vocational definition that remains open for a significant share of undecided students. The report concludes that the CIC operates as a device that exceeds its introductory function, insofar as it creates conditions for students to recognize themselves as such, to try out a discipline-specific mode of thinking, and to build informed vocational decisions, thereby favoring retention and the consolidation of trajectories within the field of Economic Sciences.
