Creado a partir de un salón auspiciado por el gobierno peronista, el museo se enmarcó en un proyecto más amplio de “democratización” y “federalización” de la cultura a lo largo del territorio nacional; esa iniciativa sería la consolidación en el plano simbólico de la noción de “justicia social” que se constituyó como uno de los significantes centrales de la identidad política peronista. Sin embargo, el museo solo pudo ser inaugurado una década después, cuando el grupo Calíbar (que nucleaba a artistas plásticos y escritores) se hizo cargo de la iniciativa y utilizó la plataforma del museo para llevar adelante una modernización de la escena cultural provincial desde un enfoque autonomista.This article investigates the formation of the Municipal Museum of La Rioja, a process that went through dissimilar moments of the history of the province and the country. Created from a exhibition sponsored by the Peronist government, the museum was part of a broader project of "democratization" and "federalization" of culture throughout the national territory; this initiative was ment to be the consolidation in the symbolic plane of the notion of "social justice" that was one of the central signifiers of the Peronist political identity.
