Militante marxista, desde de su exilio mexicano en los años setenta, formó parte del grupo de intelectuales que formuló una revisión del marxismo revolucionario, buscando dar forma a un nuevo relato que integrara socialismo y democracia. Si en buena parte de ellos medió una interpretación de Gramsci en clave socialdemócrata, en Aricó, el esfuerzo se plasmó en una revisión historiográfica de la izquierda latinoamericana. Particularmente, releyendo a la tradición socialista argentina desde un rescate de Juan B. Justo, y ubicando a José Carlos Mariátegui como parte de un marxismo necesariamente heterodoxo. Aunque no produjo textos de índole estrictamente teórica, puede interpretarse la lógica socio-política del último Aricó como una oscilación: entre la expresión de un socialismo liberal con fundamentación ética, y la deconstrucción de la dialéctica de las identidades socio-políticas. Apuntamos a mostrar dicha ambigüedad, a partir de la producción de Aricó en el período 1978-1991: textos que continúan influyendo en el abordaje de la tradición socialista argentina en la primera mitad del siglo XX.Jose Aricó wrote his name in the history of the Latin American left, from his persistence in understanding the particularitity of the same. Marxist militant, since his Mexican exile in the Seventies, he was member of the group of intellectuals who formulated a revision of the revolutionary marxism, looking for to give form to a new narrative, that integrated socialism and democracy. If mainly of them showed an interpretation of Gramsci in Social-Democratic key, in Aricó, the effort was expressed in a historiographical revision of the Latin American left. Particularly, rereading the Argentine socialist tradition by a rescue of Juan B. Justo, and locating José Carlos Mariátegui like part of a necessarily heterodox marxism. Although he has not produced texts of strictly theoretical nature, we can read the sociopolitical logic of the last Aricó as an oscillation: between the expression of a liberal socialism with ethical foundation, and the deconstruction of the dialectic of sociopolitical identities.
