Este tema, que ha sido prácticamente ignorado por la historiografía tradicional, nos parece relevante para comprender la conformación social de la región santafesina. Intentaremos llenar este vacío historiográfico recurriendo a la documentación concentrada mayoritariamente en el Archivo del Departamento de Estudios Etnográficos y Coloniales y en el Archivo Histórico Provincial, ambos de la ciudad de Santa Fe. Es a través de los testamentos y las cartas dotales que la población negra santafesina comienza a salir del anonimato, para que podamos conocer, al menos, cuántos eran, sus sexos, sus edades, los precios en que fueron adquiridos, los nombres impuestos, sus asignadas procedencias, los amos de los que dependían y, a partir de ello, despejar otros niveles de análisis.In this article we will try to reach the characteristic of the black slave population existing in the jurisdiction of Santa Fe during the 17th century. This subject, that has been practically ignored by the traditional historiography, seems to us relevant to understand the social conformation of the region of Santa Fe. We will try to fill the historiographic emptyness resorting to the documentation concentrated mostly at the archive of the Departamento de Estudios Etnográficos y Coloniales and the Archivo Histórico Provincial, both in the city of Santa Fe.
