A partir de los estudios de las profesiones y de la violencia, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar las narrativas laborales de agentes varones del Servicio Penitenciario Bonaerense para explorar las lógicas de legitimación de las prácticas violentas y sus mecanismos informales. Se realizaron entrevistas abiertas y semiestructuradas a suboficiales y oficiales, así como observaciones en penitenciarías (2016 y 2019). Se identificaron prácticas ritualizadas en el ingreso a las penitenciarías que dan cuenta de instancias socializadoras de violencia. Cuatro prácticas fueron identificadas, que recubren el carácter de hitos biográficos: “bienvenidas”, “derecho de piso”, “pasajes” y “castigos”. Se propone la lógica del “verdugueo” como marco general de aprendizaje de reglas informales y formas de violencia entre los mismos agentes penitenciarios.In Argentina, studies about police and judicial bureaucracies have shown that the use of violence by penitentiary agents constitutes a regular phenomenon, inscribed in the institutional contexts. Drawing upon social studies of professions and violence, the objective of this paper is to work narratives of male penitentiary agents of the Buenos Aires Penitentiary Service, in order to explore the legitimation processes of violent practices and its informal mechanisms. Open and semi-structured interviews were conducted with penitentiary agents, and observations in penitentiaries were carried out (2016-2019). We identified several ritualized practices in the early stages of their labor trajectories. Notably, we describe four practices that were narrated as indexes: “welcomes”, “earning one’s place”, “passages”, and “punishments”.
