Nei testi delle sue canzoni essa è spesso vettore della narrazione, che in alcuni casi è fine a sé stessa, e in altri prende una piega dottrinale o educativa che al di là dell'intenzionalità, tende ad avere le vesti di un dogma. Il topos fantastico, in questi quattro decenni, è passato attraverso diverse tappe: la prima è la costruzione di un mondo di fantasia fisico-biologica. La seconda è quella della narrativa popolare tra il mondo Classico, l'Oriente, l'Europa, e l'Italia. Nella terza tappa la fantasia si colora invece di essoterismo e teodicea. Questo lavoro si propone di gettare luce su questi topoi, le loro fonti e la loro portata.Fantasy has always had an important role within Franco Battiato's fourty-year long career as writer and composer. In his lyrics, fantasy is often the carrier of the what is being told. In some cases, the story is an end in itself, and in other cases takes a doctrinal or educative turn, which beyond its original purpose tends to have the aspect of a dogma. Thus, fantasy as a literary topos has gone though several phases in these four decades: the first one is the construction of a world made of physical-biological fantasy. The second one is related to folk tales from Ancient History, Eastern Civilization, Europe and Italy. In the third phase, fantasy is used to carry esoteric and theodicean issues.
