Estos discursos, en la materialidad del libro impreso, el primer medio moderno de comunicación, dieron cuerpo a la intervención cultural de numerosos viajeros europeos que itineraron y permanecieron en Entre Ríos, participando protagónicamente en la constitución del campo científico y cultural regional y nacional. Viajeros como el inglés Charles Darwin, los franceses Alcide d`Orbigny, Martin de Moussy y Auguste Bravard, y el prusiano Hermann Burmeister intervinieron activa y protagónicamente en la configuración e instalación del discurso científico moderno en Argentina. Otros, como el militar belga Alfred du Graty y el mismo Martin de Moussy, médico y geógrafo, antes mencionado, ocuparon a través de su escritura un lugar protagónico en la red textual a partir de su rol decisivo en los procesos de construcción discursiva del espacio confederal y de la memoria histórica, en una serie en la que los antecede el topógrafo español Félix de Azara y el cónsul británico Woodbine Parish. Su “intervención cartográfica” y el diálogo polémico entre sus discursos generaron “ficciones orientadoras” que fueron condición de posibilidad para la gestación de la “invención histórica” de nuestra nación en el siglo XIX, especialmente durante el período de la Confederación Argentina. En estas cuestiones se centra la primera parte de esta Tesis. Teniendo en cuenta que la experiencia del viaje durante el siglo XIX aparece como un acto de reconocimiento del mundo, del espacio y del “otro”, y que por lo tanto se erige en potente y eficaz tecnología de construcción discursiva de las figuras de la alteridad, en segundo lugar analizamos la construcción discursiva de las figuras del “otro”, notablemente desarrollada en viajeros como el comerciante inglés John A. B. Beaumont, el médico y naturalista prusiano Hermann Burmeister, ya mencionado, y el fisiólogo y antropólogo italiano Paolo Mantegazza.[en] During the nineteenth century western culture kept a relevant shelf in the “order of books” for “travel accounts”, to which we have called “discourses of (in) travel”. They took the form of printed books, the first modern means of communication, and enabled the cultural intervention of several European travellers who went all over Entre Ríos and got involved in the constitution of regional and national, cultural and scientific field. Travellers like the Englishman Charles Darwin, Frenchmen like Alcide d`Orbigny, Martin de Moussy and Auguste Bravard, and the Prussian Hermann Burmeister, took part actively in the configuration and settlement of modern scientific discourse in Argentina. Others, like the Belgian military man Alfred du Graty and Martin de Moussy, doctor and geographer former mentioned, had a relevant position through their writings in the socio-cultural processes of the discursive construction of space and historical memory, preceded by the Spanish topographer Félix de Azara and the British consul Woodbine Parish. Their “cartographic intervention” and the polemic dialogue among their discourses created “fictions” which were the condition of possibility of the “historical invention” of our nation in the nineteenth century, especially during the period of Argentinean Confederation. These are the axial topics of the first part of this thesis.
