Esta suerte de convivencia entre características o signos que tenderían a negarse o anularse entre sí, es la que asigna al mito peculiaridades que lo determinan y sostienen al mismo tiempo su interés y su vigencia Un espacio de significación más allá de lo referencial, avala una propuesta de doble ocurrencia de sentidos en un mismo espacio discursivo. El 'mito' y el intento por su verificación o verosimilización constituyen otro aspecto de la misma dualidad y permite arriesgar dos hipótesis: por un lado, es posible pensar que la ausencia de ciertos datos obedezca a que éstos hayan sido son conocidos, ya incorporados y aceptados en el acervo cultural y que, por lo tanto, verificarían precisamente por su no presencia; por otro lado, estas ausencias ofrecerían al 'consumidor' clásico la posibilidad de comprometerse con lo narrado en los textos con su aporte personal por medio de las presuposiciones e inferencias que el argumento y la trama le habilitan. La eventual participación en la elaboración del relato, bien podría leerse como la potencialidad del 'mito' para mantener cohesionada a una sociedad tan geográficamente esparcida y aislada como la helénica. Mito y verdad constituyen así los dos términos de una dualidad que se aproximan en su estrategia de persuasión.Whithin the concept of the of the category 'myth' itself there are at least two conflicting or vacillant levels of meaning that, nevertheless, interact in order to a same objective: the comprehension, acceptance and conservation of a culture. This kind of relationship among characteristics or signs that would tend to be denied or cancelled among themselves, is what gives the myth the pecularities that determine it and, at the same time, maintain its interest and force A space of meaning beyond what is referencial, vouches for a proposal of double occurrence of senses in a same discursive space. The 'myth' and the attempt for its verification or verosimilitude constitute another aspect of the same duality and permit to risk two hypothesis: on the one hand, it is possible to think that certain data are absent because they had been known, already incorporated and accepted in the cultural heritage and that, therefore, they would verify indeed by being not present; on the other hand, these absences would offer the classical 'consumer' the possibility to be involved in what is told in the texts by giving their personal contributions through presuppositions and inferences that the argument and plot supply them. The eventual participation in the making of the story could be read as the potentiality of the 'myth' to keep united such a remote and so geographically widespread society as the Hellenic one.
