The sharp rise of agro-food commodities prices in the first part of the 20th century was established as a phenomenon as unexpected as suitable, for a country which could be benefited from extraordinary equities in its international trade and instrumentalize a particular model of national development, after a default in December of 2001. Even though this peak in prices is attributed to the demand pull of China and other countries in south-east Asia, new researches suggest that there could be a previous alteration in the regulatory framework of the international commodities market, in regard the price fixing , that would have served to the referred model of development
