The so-called "feeling of insecurity" comes about with the decline of the Welfare State, when the scene showed situations of neglect, civil violence, fragile job placement, and lack of integration prospects for the future. In Argentina, during the last years, the percentage of people who fear becoming a victim of crime doubled, while crime rates – after experiencing an increase - have leveled off. This article questions the role of the mass media in insecurity discourse construction, aiming at the following objectives. Firstly, to analyze the media operations which became a turning point in crime news: the camera on the action point, constant information update through the Internet, and the use of a tabloid narrative style. Secondly, to investigate in the literature about some theoretical and/or authorial frames, in which the process of circulation and consumption of crime media representation was studied; and finally, to reflect on the role of the mass media as responsible or enabler of insecurity, in an ethos of an age marked by cultural standardization and social exclusion
