resistencias genéticas a plagas y enfermedades.
contrastantes (12,5; 11,7 y 11,3 Mg MS ha-1
año-1
, como promedios de las localidades y
condiciones climáticas, en grupos I, II y III, respectivamente).
The objective of this thesis was to use the AquaCrop model (FAO) to analyze the relationships between the edaphoclimatic variables and the seasonal and year-on-year dynamics of the production of Medicago sativa L. It was used in various locations in the Argentine Pampas ecoregion. There are no previous works to calibrate it in alfalfa. Also, a forage valuation index was developed to classify cultivars in the region, based on their genetic resistance to pests and diseases. Was used the Information from the INTA alfalfa cultivar evaluation for the short latency groups (8-10) in the three production first years during the period 2000-2018. The localities were Marcos Juárez, Manfredi, Rafaela, Paraná and Concepción del Uruguay. He cuts were grouped into two growing seasons, those periods of greatest (September to February) and lowest (March to August) forage growth, also according to conditions of deficit, excess or normal rainfall. For the first objective, the AquaCrop (FAO) model was used, which allows estimating the biomass of a crop from evapotranspirated water, there being no previous calibration work on alfalfa. The parameter of the cultivation module were not available for alfalfa, so bibliographic sources were used to define and / or estimate them, which constitutes a worldwide advance of the model. The biomass values were analyzed under optimal conditions and gaps to that optimum. The efficiency of water use, in conditions of deficit and excess precipitation, was also analyzed. High yield gaps were observed between potential productions and those observed in the network cuts, this gap varying between 30% and 85%. The greatest efficiency in the use of water was achieved in Marcos Juárez in the dry periods of autumn winter growth with 3.59 kg DM m-3 , a value that significantly exceeded the rest of the localities. The town of Concepción del Uruguay showed the lowest efficiencies (<2 kg DM m-3 ). The model allows identifying the edaphoclimatic relationships that respond to gaps in potential production and to the efficiency of water use in alfalfa. A second objective was to analyze the relative contribution of genetic improvement in short dormancy cultivars, regarding resistance to pests and diseases. For this, a valuation index was built to group the cultivars according to their resistance qualities. It was observed that the cultivars in the group with the highest combined resistance presented the highest productivity and the lowest relative dispersions within the group. They also showed the greatest stability against contrasting water situations (12.5, 11.7 and 11.3 Mg MS ha-1 year-1 , as averages of localities and climatic conditions, in groups I, II and III, respectively). In summary, the simplicity of the AquaCrop model and its ability to adapt to different climates and soils in the tested locations are remarkable. Over 90 cultivars with short latency in response to their biotic resistance were group into a valuation index, which was associated with abnormal precipitation situations. This index showed another aspect in cultivar choice for a given area. The work allowed a more detailed analysis of alfalfa productions in the Pampa region of Argentina.
