Resumen
La clasificación estratigráfica de los sedimentos que conforman el relleno superficial de la unidad
morfoestructural denominada Subcuenca Rosario ha sido revisada sobre la base de estudios actuales. Se propone
la Fm. Saladillo (nov.), sección tipo en las barrancas del Río Paraná en Rosario, dentro de la cual los moluscos
ocurrentes se han clasificado en cuatro conjuntos fáunicos sucesivos. Se considera que el tramo superior es de
edad Holocena, mientras que el inferior sería de edad Pleistoceno tardío. La Cuenca del Arroyo del Medio se
emplaza en la Subcuenca Rosario. La sucesión sedimentaria muestra en el sector occidental un desarrollo análogo
al de las barrancas del Río Paraná en Rosario. La Fm. Saladillo (nov.) se presenta bien desarrollada y
prácticamente todos sus términos pueden ser diferenciados. Sin embargo, hacia el Oeste se aprecia un fuerte
acuñamiento que produce las supresión de varios términos, principalmente los estratos de arcillas verdes, como así
también la pérdida de potencia de todos los estratos. Este patrón de acuñamiento es típico en toda la Subcuenca
Rosario.
Abstract.- Quaternary Stratigraphy of southern Santa Fe Province, Argentina. The stratigraphic classification of the sediments conforming the upper part of the sedimentary succession of the Rosario Subbasin has been revised on the basis of recent studies. The Saladillo Fm. (nov.) is proposed with type section at Rosario. The occurrent molluscs are classified in four successive faunal assemblages. The upper part of the formation is considered Holocene and the lower part late Pleistocene in age. The Arroyo del Medio basin (CAM, East-Central Argentina) is developped within the boundaries of the Rosario Subbasin. The stratigraphic succession of western CAM shows the characteristic features of the Saladillo Fm. in the type section with very similar development of all the succession. However, westwards it can be seen a strong wedging which produces the supression of some terms, especially those of greenish clays, and, moreover, reduction of thickness throughout all the succession. This wedged pattern is typical throughout all the Rosario Subbasin.
