In Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s government experienced major political conflicts. One of the main arguments of the oppositional critique focuses on the “form” of governing and on the fact that her candidacy followed that of her husband. Within this context, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner attempts to configure a feminine political subjectivity that her matrimony with Néstor Kirchner undermines. From a post-structuralist perspective, this articles problematizes the intersection between “political matrimony” and gender heteronormativity within the articulation of an opositional discourse through different actors: Néstor Kirchner, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, politicians, the mass media, intellectuals. In this oppositional discourse old dichotomies such as the antinomy between liberalism and populism are reenacted.
