El tiranicidio de César en el drama de Shakespeare: sus fuentes y posibilidades de interpretación en la Inglaterra isabelina

El teatro isabelino nos ofrece un espacio de indagación de las problemáticas sociales y políticas de su tiempo. Un terreno donde el pasado y el presente se conjugan en un juego de representaciones que dan vida nuevamente a ciertos personajes del pasado, pero a la luz de los intereses presentes. En este sentido, los dramaturgos isabelinos se han servido de la historia de la Antigua Roma, para dar nueva vida a sus personajes más paradigmáticos. Para ejemplificar esta idea proponemos analizar la obra Julio Cesar de W. Shakespeare. El estudio de las fuentes que utilizó el autor, el rol y caracterización de los personajes principales se inscriben en una tradición que nos permiten reflexionar sobre los aspectos políticos de la historia que legitimó Shakespeare, y qué relación podrían tener éstos con la realidad política de la Inglaterra de fines del siglo XVI.
The Elizabethan theatre offers us a space of investigation of the social and political issues of its time. A field where past and present meet in a set of representations that bring to life certain characters of the past, but in the light of present interests. In this sense, Elizabethan playwrights have dwelt on the history of Ancient Rome to give new life to their most paradigmatic characters. To illustrate this idea we propose to analyze the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. The review of the sources this author had employed and the characterization of the main roles as part of a tradition, allows us to reflect on the political aspects of a version of history that Shakespeare contributed to legitimize, and the links they might have had with the political situation in late 16th-century England.
