This paper focuses on the Magical practices that aim to the death of the victim mentioned in the text, beyond his/her “fixation” or “immovilization” (katadesmós, defixio), evaluating the ways and contexts of these death spells performed through acts of “persuasive analogy”. Some of these texts in which the defigens –in an horizon of anxiety, fear or risk- asks for the intervention of the deities –usually with a ctonic personality- against thieves (in the so called “prayers for justice”), enemies or rivals in different areas of the social life (and specially in the erotic or judicial contexts), come from sanctuaries (as the recent finds from the Fontana of Anna Perenna i Rome or the temple of Isis and Mater Magna in Mainz document), and this is a fact that questions the tradicional dichotomy between Magic and Religion maintained by a wide sector of tradicional historiography.
