The theatrical repertoire of Amigos del Arte: between the “anarchist culture” and the “mass culture”. Mar del Plata, 1939-1947

El grupo teatral “Amigos del Arte”, perteneciente a la Biblioteca Popular Juventud Moderna de la ciudad de Mar del Plata, tuvo presencia entre los años 1939-1947, ligándose su actividad cultural al accionar político y sindical anarquista presente en esa institución. El análisis de su repertorio teatral será el objeto de este artículo, considerando en la recopilación de obras, textos y autores la presencia de componentes referidos a una “cultura anarquista” o bien de una “cultura de masas”. Para ello consideraremos posiciones más tradicionales sobre teatro anarquista, ancladas en experiencias pertenecientes a las últimas décadas del siglo XIX y las primeras del XX. En su desarrollo partiremos de un enfoque que relacione las obras utilizadas con las particularidades del contexto socio-histórico en el que el grupo filodramático tuvo presencia y donde realizaba sus funciones teatrales.
The theatrical group "Amigos del Arte", belonging to Popular Library “Juventud Moderna” of the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina, had presence between the years 1939-1947, linking its cultural activity to the politician and anarchist trade union present in the institution where it was serving. The analysis of his theatrical repertoire is the subject of this article, considering the presence of components referred to a "anarchist culture" or a "mass culture" in the compilation of dramatic works, texts and authors. We will also consider more traditional positions on the so-called anarchist theater, anchored in the last decades of the nineteenth century and the first of the twentieth. For its development we use an approach that relates the particularities of the works used by the group with the characteristics of the socio-historical context in which the philodramatic group had a presence and in which it developed its theatrical functions.
